- To join the app you need to be 18+ (19 in Alabama), with a textable phone, email and payment method.
- Sezzle Cash also requires Sezzle Anywhere, an eligible state, an SSN, a linked account and on-time history.
- Declines are usually temporary — small orders paid on time from a bank account rebuild eligibility.
Sezzle requirements

- Agreement to a soft credit check
Sezzle Cash requirements

A step-by-step path to eligibility
If you are new to Sezzle, think of a cash advance as something you work toward rather than something you unlock on day one. This order of steps makes the most sense:
- 1Confirm your state
Check the list below first — if advances aren't offered where you live, the other steps won't change that.
- 2Set up the basics
Verify your phone and email, add your Social Security number and link a bank account as your default payment method.
- 3Build a short track record
Use Pay in 4 for a few small purchases you were already planning and pay every installment on time.
- 4Keep the account clean
Avoid failed autopays; if a date looks tight, reschedule before it arrives.
- 5Decide on Sezzle Anywhere
Subscribe only if the pay-anywhere card is useful to you on its own, then check whether an advance offer appears in the app.
State availability
SezzleCash is offered in about 30 states. As of October 2026 it is not available in: Washington, D.C., Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Illinois, Iowa, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Vermont, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
State lending rules change, so Sezzle may add or remove states. If you live in an excluded state, the SezzleCash tile simply won't appear in your app. Full details: Sezzle Cash states list.
Why you might be declined
- Too little Sezzle history — try a few small Pay in 4 orders first.
- A recent failed or late payment.
- Insufficient balance at checkout (keep at least 25% of the order available).
- Identity details that don't match your bank or credit file.
- Too many open orders relative to your spending power.
What to do if you can't get an advance right now
Not seeing an offer — or living in a state where Sezzle Cash isn't available — doesn't leave you without options. Start with the cheapest choices:
A utility company, landlord or medical office may agree to a short extension or payment plan if you call before the due date.
Some employers offer paycheck advances at little or no cost.
Members may qualify for a Payday Alternative Loan, which has capped rates.
If the expense is a purchase, Pay in 4 may cover it without an advance.
Even covering part of a bill from savings or a quick sale can shrink what you need to borrow.
Keep building your record in the meantime. On-time payments on regular orders still count, so an offer may appear later.
If you move, update your address in the Sezzle App so your eligibility reflects your current state. Whatever you choose, avoid stacking several short-term products at once — our responsible borrowing tips explains why.
“A decline is not a permanent mark. In our experience the fastest path back is two or three small orders paid on time from a linked bank account. Avoid reapplying repeatedly in the same day.”
