- A missed Sezzle payment can trigger a failed-payment fee, a late fee, an account pause and eventually collections.
- Rescheduling or funding your payment method before the due date is far cheaper than fixing a failed autopay.
- Missed installments can block Sezzle Cash and, with Sezzle Up, hurt your credit — pay quickly and contact support.
What happens after a missed Sezzle payment
- 1
Due date autopay attempts to collect.
- 2
If it fails a failed-payment fee of up to $6.95 may apply, and your bank may charge an NSF or overdraft fee.
- 3
If it stays unpaid a late fee of up to $16.95 (capped at 25% of the order) may be charged.
- 4
Account pause new orders and Sezzle Cash may be blocked.
- 5
Long delinquency the balance may be sent to collections.
Before the due date: how to stop a payment from failing
The cheapest late payment is the one that never happens. If you can see a shortfall coming, you have several options in the Sezzle app.
You can move a payment up to two weeks later. The first reschedule on an order is often free; any extra reschedules on the same order may cost up to $7.50.
If one account is low and another is funded, change the method on that order before the due date.
Clearing a smaller order early can free up room in your budget for the one that's due.
Bank transfers can take time. Fund the account a day or two before autopay runs, not the morning of.

How fees can stack on one missed payment
A single missed installment can trigger charges from more than one place. Picture how it can unfold:
- 1
Autopay tries to collect and your account is short. Sezzle may charge a failed-payment fee.
- 2
Your bank may add its own NSF or overdraft fee for the declined attempt.
- 3
If the installment stays unpaid, a late fee may follow.
- 4
If you then reschedule other payments to cope, reschedule fees can add on top.
None of these is huge on its own. Together, they can turn a small installment into a much bigger bill — and they arrive at the moment money is already tight.
Will it hurt my credit?
If you're enrolled in Sezzle Up, late payments can be reported to the credit bureaus. Debts sent to collections can also appear on your report regardless.
What if you miss a Sezzle Cash installment?
A Sezzle Cash advance is repaid in installments, much like a shopping order, so a missed installment follows a similar path. A few details matter more, though.
Your next advance is on hold
A late or failed payment is one of the most common reasons an advance stops being offered. Expect the option to disappear until you're current and have some on-time history again.
Your membership keeps billing
SezzleCash requires Sezzle Anywhere. If your account is paused, the subscription may still renew. Decide whether to keep it while you catch up, rather than paying for features you can't use.
Fees can outweigh the advance's cost
The flat service fee on a small advance is modest. A failed payment, a late fee and a bank NSF charge on top can quickly cost more than the advance itself.
How to recover
- Pay the missed installment as soon as possible
- Fund your payment method before the next due date
- Reschedule upcoming installments early if needed
- Contact Sezzle support to discuss options
- Pause new orders until you're current
Contacting Sezzle about a missed payment
If you can't catch up right away, reaching out early beats silence. Support can only help with what it knows about.
Have this ready
- The order or advance with the missed installment
- The date you expect to be able to pay
- Whether you need a one-time delay or a broader plan
- Your preferred payment method going forward
Be specific: “I can pay this installment on Friday when my paycheck arrives” gets a clearer answer than a general request for help.
Watch for fake “debt help”
Only contact Sezzle through the app or its official website. Anyone who calls or texts offering to “settle” your Sezzle balance for an upfront fee, or asks for your password, is not Sezzle.
See our Sezzle customer service article for the official ways to get help.
“Speed matters. Paying a missed installment within a day or two usually limits the damage to the failed-payment fee and keeps your account in better standing.”

Does Sezzle have a grace period?
Terms vary; failed autopays may be retried and fees can apply. Check your order details in the app.
Can a missed Sezzle payment stop me from getting Sezzle Cash?
Yes. A recent late or failed payment is one of the most common reasons SezzleCash isn't offered.
