- The Sezzle virtual card is a digital Visa that splits purchases into installments, either anywhere Visa works or at select retailers.
- Add it to Apple Wallet or Google Pay, check spending power before tapping, and keep your first installment funded.
- Returns reduce remaining installments, Sezzle Cash never loads onto the card, and declines usually trace to limits or overdue payments.
What is the Sezzle virtual card?
The Sezzle virtual card is a digital Visa card issued by WebBank that lives in the Sezzle App. When you pay with it, the purchase is split into installments just like Pay in 4. There are two ways to use it:
How to add it to Apple Wallet or Google Pay
- 1
Open the Sezzle App and tap the card section.
- 2
Choose “Add to Apple Wallet” or “Add to Google Pay”.
- 3
Follow the prompts to verify.
- 4
Set your default payment method in Sezzle for the installments.
Using the card in store and online
In store, tap your phone at the terminal as you would with any contactless card. Online, enter the card details shown in the app or use the wallet button at checkout. Your first installment is collected at purchase and the rest every two weeks.
Virtual card vs. checking out with Sezzle directly
If a store already offers Sezzle at checkout, you have two ways to split the same purchase. They lead to a similar result, but the details differ.
The rule of thumb is simple: if the partner checkout button is there, use it. Save the virtual card for places Sezzle wouldn't otherwise reach.
Spending power applies either way
Both routes draw on the same spending power and the same default payment method. Splitting through the card instead of the checkout button doesn't give you extra room, and an overdue installment on any order can block both.

Fees and limits
Installments are interest-free when paid on time. Fees can apply for failed or late payments — see Sezzle fees. Note that Sezzle Cash is never loaded onto the virtual card; advances go to your bank or debit card.
Returns and refunds on card purchases
Returning an item bought with the virtual card works much like returning anything bought with a regular card — you start with the merchant, not with Sezzle.
- 1
Return the item following the store's own policy and keep your receipt.
- 2
Wait for the merchant to process the refund. That can take several days.
- 3
Check the order in the Sezzle app. Sezzle applies the refund to your remaining installments first.
Until the refund shows up, upcoming installments are still due. Keep paying them on time so a slow refund doesn't turn into a late fee.
Troubleshooting a declined Sezzle card
- Purchase exceeds your current spending power
- Not enough funds for the first installment on your payment method
- Merchant category not supported
- A payment is overdue on another order
Keeping your Sezzle card secure
A virtual card can't be lost in a parking lot, but its details can still be stolen. A few habits keep it safe.
- Use the wallet version in stores so the card number isn't exposed at the terminal.
- Lock your phone with a passcode and biometrics — the app holds your card.
- Review new orders in the app every week and report anything you don't recognize.
- Never share card details or login codes with anyone who contacts you first.
Because the app holds your card, orders and advances in one place, securing the app protects all three. See our Sezzle login and sign-up article for account settings.
“Treat the virtual card like a debit card with a delay, not a credit card. If you wouldn't buy it with the money in your account over the next six weeks, don't tap.”
